The European Union’s antitrust body announced it will not investigate Microsoft’s hiring of Inflection AI employees, after seven member states withdrew their requests under Article 22 of the EU Merger Regulation. This decision follows a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union that limits national agencies’ ability to refer such cases. The UK’s competition regulator also opted out of investigating the partnership, which involves Inflection AI co-founders joining Microsoft’s AI division. However, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is reportedly scrutinizing the deal structure. Microsoft shares fell 1% after the news.
